Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Effective: January 15, 2025 · Applies to: Specter AI desktop app + specterai.tattvamind.com
Overview
Tattva Mind("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. Specter is designed from the ground up as a privacy-first application. The short version: your interview data never leaves your device.
This Privacy Policy explains our data practices for the Specter desktop application (v1.0.1+) and the specterai.tattvamind.com website.
What Data We Collect
Specter Desktop App — Local Only
The Specter desktop application stores the following data exclusively on your local device, in JSON files within the app's data directory:
- Answer history: Questions detected and AI answers generated (up to 300 entries). Stored locally. Never transmitted to Tattva Mind.
- API key configuration: Your LLM provider API keys (Gemini, OpenAI, Claude) are stored in your local app settings. They are used only to make direct API calls from your device to the LLM provider. Never transmitted to Tattva Mind.
- Session history: Timestamps and session metadata stored locally. Used for Session Debrief scoring.
- App preferences: UI settings, role preferences, keyboard shortcuts. Stored locally.
We receive none of this data. Tattva Mind has no server-side access to your answer history, API keys, session data, or any interview-related content.
Crash Reports (Opt-In Only)
If you opt in to crash reporting in Settings → Privacy, Specter may send anonymized crash logs to our error tracking service. These logs contain:
- App version number
- Operating system version
- Error type and stack trace
- Timestamp of the crash
Crash reports never contain interview content, answer history, API keys, screen captures, audio data, or any personal information. Crash reporting is disabled by default.
Website (specterai.tattvamind.com)
The specterai.tattvamind.com website uses standard web server logs that may contain IP addresses, browser user agents, and page request timestamps. This data is used solely for infrastructure monitoring and security purposes and is not associated with personal profiles.
We do not use tracking pixels, behavioral analytics, or advertising trackers on specterai.tattvamind.com.
No Server-Side Processing of Answers
Specter's AI functionality works by making API calls directly from your device to the LLM provider you have configured (Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic). These API calls are made using your own API key. Tattva Mind does not intercept, proxy, log, or otherwise process these API calls.
Your interview questions and AI-generated answers are transmitted only between your device and the LLM provider. Each provider has their own privacy policy governing how they handle API inputs:
- Google Gemini API: Google Privacy Policy
- OpenAI API: OpenAI Privacy Policy
- Anthropic API: Anthropic Privacy Policy
We recommend reviewing each provider's API data usage terms, particularly regarding whether API inputs are used to train models. As of the date of this policy, all three providers offer opt-outs from training data usage for API customers.
No Telemetry by Default
Specter does not collect usage analytics, feature usage telemetry, session counts, or behavioral data by default. No analytics SDK (Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment, etc.) is included in the app.
Future versions may introduce optional analytics features. Any such feature will be opt-in, clearly described before enabling, and easily disabled.
API Key Storage
API keys are stored in the Specter settings file on your local device. On macOS, this file is located at ~/Library/Application Support/Specter/settings.json. On Windows, at %APPDATA%\Specter\settings.json. On Linux, at ~/.config/Specter/settings.json.
We recommend using read-only API keys (where supported by the provider) to minimize risk in the unlikely event of device compromise. Gemini, OpenAI, and Anthropic all support scoped API key creation.
GDPR Compliance
Because Specter processes all data locally on your device and does not transmit personal data to Tattva Mind servers, the GDPR's requirements for data controller obligations (consent mechanisms, data subject rights requests, etc.) do not apply to Tattva Mind with respect to in-app interview data.
For EU/EEA users: the only personal data we may process is email addresses provided voluntarily for Pro plan billing or support requests. This data is processed under the legal basis of contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and is stored securely with our payment processor (Stripe) and support tooling.
To exercise your GDPR rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection), contact us at the email below.
Children's Privacy
Specter is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app release notes and on this page. Continued use of Specter after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
